In a surprise announcement that’s left many in the amateur radio world scratching their heads, the 2025 W4DXCC DX and Contest Convention has been officially cancelled.
This news came just months after organizers announced that the next convention would align with the Huntsville Hamfest, creating what many expected to be a powerful one-two punch for Southeastern hams looking for both a top-tier DX convention and a premier regional hamfest in one weekend.
Now, that momentum has been abruptly stopped.
While the reasons for the cancellation haven’t been fully detailed publicly, speculation within the amateur radio community points to logistical challenges and potential conflicts with the shared scheduling. Whatever the cause, it’s a blow to DXers and contesters who had already begun planning for the 2025 event.
For years, W4DXCC has been one of the most respected DX and contesting gatherings in the U.S., drawing operators from across the country to share knowledge, network, and learn from industry experts. The 2024 event was well-received, and the decision to cancel the 2025 edition comes as a shock to many loyal attendees.
